CANCELLATION: Beyond Hope to New Hope 200K

We’ve made the decision to cancel the Beyond Hope to New Hope 200K due to unsafe road conditions.

Chris Nadovich drove multiple sections of the course and found significant snow and ice remaining on many roads, along with limited shoulder space. With additional winter weather in the forecast, these conditions create an unacceptable safety risk for riders. Rider safety always comes first.

We are canceling the event rather than postponing it, as we’re unable to determine when road conditions will improve and we have limited volunteer availability for the remainder of February.

February 200K Permanent Option

Due to this cancellation, riders will have the special opportunity to earn credit for a PA February 200K by completing a 200K permanent this month. To qualify for PA credit, the ride must be either:

  • A Pennsylvania permanent, or
  • A permanent recognized by PA Randonneurs for PA credit (for example, Hope to New Hope 200K, which is primarily in New Jersey)

The ride will be recorded as a permanent in the RUSA system and recognized as a PA February 200K for PA R-12 purposes. Riders who choose this option must enroll in the RUSA Permanent Program, register for the permanent in advance of the ride, and submit their results to RUSA after completing the ride.

If you have any questions about eligible permanents or how this applies to your riding goals, please reach out.

Thank you for your understanding, and we appreciate everyone’s flexibility during what has been a challenging winter for riding.

And a sincere thank you to event organizer Chris Nadovich for taking the time to carefully check the course and help ensure rider safety.

Hope to New Hope Ride Report

It wasn't the coldest Hope to New Hope brrrrrrevet, but darn near. The lowest temperature reported was 15F and almost everyone had some problems with water bottles solidifying. Fortunately, it was sunny and the winds were light. The roads were in good shape with only a couple easy-to-see icy spots. By mid-day it warmed up to near freezing. The "light" wind felt more like a headwind on the return from New Hope, but that's not so unusual for this course.

Four brave riders began this winter cycling adventure, and all four finished in good time for a 100% finish rate. Congratulations and well done to all.  Preliminary results have been posted

Thanks a million for organizing the ride yesterday and making sure all the riders made it safely back. Completing a brevet in January involves some luck and cold feet and yesterday certainly had both. The salt that caked my bike was a small price for a good day on the road. Bravo to all the riders and hope to see everyone next month!

As of 1 January I have stepped down as RBA of PA: Eastern. Stepped down but not stepped away. I'll still be involved in the PA Rando board of directors, and will help as a volunteer at events.

Brad Layman is now the new RBA. I believe the club is in good hands with Brad. He is the best person to foster our growth in the Philly area, and has some really good ideas for routes and interesting events. Thanks to all the volunteers who have helped me over the last few years, and I ask that you give your full support to our new RBA.
